The Education Department of the Region of Valencia organizes the “3rd Free Software Congress. Region of Valencia” under the motto “Free Software in Education”.

The 3rd Congress will take place in Alicante City the next mont of November. Its general objective is giving continuity to the Free Software postulates of integration in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), especially in the education world.

It is expected the participation of important personalities in the development of educational and bussiness Free Software. Due to the importance of the planned programme and the limited capacity of the conference hall, it will be necessary to confirm the assistante to the congress. The confirmation procedure will be notified to all the registered assitants by email when the time comes.

In the congress, the new version of the distribution GNU/Linux LliureX (based on Free Software) with its different profiles will be launched. The Valencian Education Administration will show the transition of the pilot centers with the distribution LliureX to the implantation process of Lliurex in the Valencian schools.

The congress will provide a meeting and debate forum, which opens perspectives and contrasts experiences in the implantation of the Free Software, especially the ones made by the different autonomous regions in the education field.

In short, we will try to encourage the ICT usage though the Free Software, to give continuity to the collaboration among the GNU/Linux distributions from the different autonomous regions and to strengthen their implication in the development of the knowledge society.

OBJECTIVES

Among the objectives of the “3rd Free Software Congress. Region of Valencia” are: the presentation of the new LliureX version and its Classroom Model -with all the formed necessary services in the server-, to share experiencies of LliureX usage, to confirm the disponibility of Free Software educational applications, to carry out an analysis of the present and future of the Free Software in the education field, and the presentation of different international iniciatives of the use of the Free Software in the education, among others.

The main objectives of the “3rd Free Software Congress. Region of Valencia” are:

• To present the new version of LliureX, and its Classroom Model and the different adaptations (Preschool, Music Classrooms, Languages Laboratories and Libraries).
• To share experiences of LliureX use done in the elementary and secondary shools.
• To show, thought experiences, the integration of the ICT as pedagogical resources in the classrooms of Special Education schools.
• To spread experiences about the elaboration of open educational contents and associate topics as licenses, catalogation and so on.
• To use web 2.0 tools available in the educational website EscolaLliureX.
• To stablish and promote the colaboration among autonomous regions with a GNU/Linux distribution of their own.
• To analyze the disponibility of Free Software educational applications.
• To analyze the present and future of the Free Software in education.
• To present different international initiatives of the use of Free Software in education.
